25.02.2018 : Abu Dhabi-based LuLu Group on Saturday (24.02.2018) launched work on an International Convention Centre, a five star hotel and a retail mall at APIIC grounds at Harbour Park here to promote meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions (MICE) tourism in Visakhapatnam. By unveiling a plaque, Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation stone for the ambitious project at the inaugural of three-day CII Partnership Summit and Sunrise AP Investment Meet in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Ministers Suresh Prabhu and P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju. "We hope to complete this prestigious project by 2021 by providing direct jobs for 5,000 and indirect jobs for another 5,000," LuLu Group's Chairman & MD Yusuff Ali MA told the media.

24.10.2017 : Lulu group to invest Dh1.7b to construct a shopping mall, a convention center and a five-star hotel in Vizag. Lulu group announced that they would be investing Dh1.7 billion in the construction of a shopping mall, a five-star hotel and a convention centre in Andhra Pradesh at Visakhapatnam, it was announced on Monday. "Andhra Pradesh being the newest state in India has a tremendous potential for investments in various sectors especially in hospitality and retail. We've had many rounds of fruitful discussions with the government of Andhra Pradesh and the speed with which they approved our project is commendable. 26.07.2017 : Govt.of Andhra Pradesh has issued a G.O. Rt No. 116 dt: 25.07.2017 for the development of International Convention Centre at Visakhapatnam City with exhibition halls, meeting halls, parking places, star hotel, retail mall etc., is on Public Private Partnership (PPP) mode in a site of around Ac.9.12 cents on Harbour Park Road / R.K. Beach Road in Visakhapatnam City. The LoI shall be issued by the A.P. Infrastructure Industrial Corporation to the Selected sole Bidder M/s. 28.01.2017 : Chief Minister, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu announced during the CII Partnership Summit 2017 that Govt is going to build a Mega Convention center, Hotel, Multiplexes, Shopping Complex at APIIC Ground, Harbour Park, where the CII summit is being held within 12 months and hopefully the next CII Partnership Summit or Sunrise AP Investment Meet 2018 will be held in that Convention Center.
As per the latest development, Govt handed over the responsibility to APIIC, GVMC and VUDA officials to assess the estimated cost and the officers estimated that Rs. 500 crores required for construction of International Convention Center with 3,000 seating capacity, 5 star hotel, Exhibition halls, Commercial complex. The distance from Airport to the proposed Convention center is 12 Kms and from the Railway station is 3 kms only and it is also nearer to the sea coast.
In order to promote the growth of the Hospitality sector and Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, Exhibitions (MICE) under tourism industry in the state, and thereby to give an impetus to the local economy, it is envisaged to develop a Convention Center in Visakhapatnam Smart City.
09.03.2018 : SPI Cinemas in Visakhapatnam - Govt of AP accord permission vide G.O. Ms. No.93 dt: 08.03.2018 to the Commissioner, GVMC to enter into an agreement with M/s. SPI Cinemas Pvt. Ltd for development of Family Entertainment Centre (FEC) consisting of MICE, I-Max and Multiplex, Hotel in the GVMC's land to an extent of Ac. 2.70 Cents at D. No.10-3-20, 10-3-19/6,7,8 at CBM Compound, near Sampath Vinayaka Temple, under Land Lease-Cum-Development Model.
The FEC comprises meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions (MICE), I-Max and multiplex. the developer shall also build a three-star hotel having a minimum of 150 rooms constructed over a period of time on the basis of market demand.

06.09.2017: Vizag to get India's longest ropeway at Dolphin's Nose. The project is a part of renovation or re-development of Kailasagiri tourism spot which will be funded by the World Bank. The rope way from Kailasagiri to Dolphin's Nose may pass over the entire RK Beach Road stretch covering nearly 12 km. An Ahmedabad-based consulting agency, SAI Consulting has been asked to study the viability of the stretch and prepare a detailed project report (DPR). APTDC divisional manager TV Sudarshana Rao said that if the project is con firmed for the stretch between Kailasagiri and Dolphin's Nose, it will be a cynosure of the city. "Tourists can have a panoramic view of the sea on one side and lush green hills on the other while travelling in the glass-domed cable cars" he said.

08.02.2017: India's tallest Iconic Sky Tower 400 feet high will be coming up atop Kailasagiri Hill in Vizag Smart City, with an estimated project cost of ₹ 85 crore. VUDA will soon enter into an agreement with the German company, HUSS Park Attractions for building the sky tower.
CEO of Huss Park Attractions, German Company, Mirko J Schulze along with his Vice President, India operations, Vibhisha Jain arrived Vizag on monday to inspect the site atop kailasagir hill and interact with the local officials for building the 400 feet high iconic sky tower. The team visited the proposed project sige at Kailasagiri and collected soil samples and suggested that a typhoon grade tower has to be constructed to withstand a wind speed of 300 kmph. The German company needed 12 months to commission the project. The promoters signed an MOU with the State Government of Andhra Pradesh during the recent CII Partnership Summit and probably this will be the first tourism project to be put on fast track for execution.
14.03.2018 - The process for finalising a design for Mudasarlova Park abutting the picturesque reservoir has been finalised. Signature pavilion with local language motif, front walkway, theme village with local crafts and food-court, ship-shaped theme restaurant, central water body and forest board walk are among the developments proposed, according to a presentation of designs. VUDA intends to develop a theme- based park that is economically viable and environmentally sustainable. The cost is estimated around Rs. 30 crore and is expected to be lower once competitive bids are called. VUDA will spend on the development from its own funds, says VUDA Vice-Chairman P Basanth Kumar. The plans of VUDA and the corporation cover development in 20 acres retaining the greenery and ecological sensitive nature of the area. The park has water supply facilities of GVMC in it and is a favourite with the local people for picnics during Kartikam.
23.01.2018 - Mudasarlova facelift plan set to be finalised in two weeks - On January 10, representatives of Design Accord presented their proposals before Vuda and AP Urban Greening and Beautification Corporation Ltd. After incorporating the changes and suggestions of the officials over the project plan, Design Accord is expected to come up with the final project plan in the next two-three weeks. Later, the final plan will be presented before chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to seek his opinion. The proposals envisaged as part of the park redevelopment include a mega open air theatre, theme village, exhibition and multipurpose hall, kids' park, festival ground and literature gallery among others. Vuda is also planning to develop an 8-acre mango orchard in the park into a dedicated picnic spot to attract more people during the the holiday season and auspicious months such as Karthika Masam. A senior Vuda official said they want to give the park a unique look compared to other parks in the city. "The ecology of the park will be integrated into the redevelopment. The plan is not to disturb even a single shrub of the park," said the official.

Development of Kambalakonda Nature Park into an ideal destination for eco-tourism park. On a sprawling 7,146 hectares on National Highway 16 lies the Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary. This reserve forest is one of the major green zones in the city, complete with green hills, forests and a reservoir. DFO said that World Bank has sanctioned Rs. 1.29 for development of Kambalakonda. With the funds, we plan to build a natural trekking path, circulation tanks, jetty, desilt the check dams, repair the river crossing unit or the ropeway, get new fibre boats and life jackets, ensure essential amenities for visitors, install a chained mesh around the park to prevent escape of deer or other animals and set up streetlights and fire-fighting equipment.
Vanamahotsavam festival at Kambalakonda! In the reserve forest of Kambalakonda wildlife sanctuary around 2000 saplings planted. This reserve forest spread over 7,146 hectares no other city in India has that much of forest.
As part of the formation of city forests, part of kambalakonda wildlife sanctuary was identified for development of Maha Viskha Nagar Vanam covering an extent of 160.19 hectares. The components of Maha Visakha Nagar Vanam are formation of walking path, childrens park, watch towers, rest places, trekking path, butterfly park, theme park, environmental education centre, night safari, plantation of native and ornamental forest species.
23.01.2018 : Master plan for zoo in final stage - The master plan for the redevelopment of the zoo park has been taken over by Learn Nature Consultancy, Raipur. Under the APDRP, Rs. 36 crore has been allocated to the zoo for carrying out redevelopment work. The master layout plan that the consultancy developed comprises disaster proof animal houses, additional conservation and breeding centres, establishment of visitor amenities with international standards also catering for physically challenged persons, veterinary and hospital infrastructure with mobile incentive care and rescue centres, infrastructure development including implementation of e-governance, CC network implementation for surveillance, interpretation centres, orientation centres, development of zoo education and research centres, road widening and parking. "The work is expected to begin by the beginning of the next financial year," zoo curator B. Vijay Kumar said. Among other initiatives, the zoo authorities are also planning to start 'green' practices to make the IGZP a 100 percent plastic-free zone.

They should provide facilities like Water Sports, Beach volley ball, Beach Kabaddi, Para Sailing, Amusement Parks, Beach Shacks, Beach side Chairs, Cottages, Restaurants, Toilets etc. Casinos and Beer Parlours in some of these beaches to attract more tourists to the Vizag Smart City.

Also small luxury ship tourism should be introduced from Bheemili to RK Beach, RK Beach to Pudimadaka / Revupolavaram. The operators of these small luxury ships should provide restaurant, drinks, music, games etc in the Ship.
Cruise liners will be operated between Vizag to Andaman, Lakshadweep, Srilanka & Singapore. Small Cruise ships can be introduced to places like Kakinada Hope Island, Kalingapatnam beach, Bheemili, Yarada, Revupolavaram. Tourists can leave in the morning and return by evening spending time on the high seas.
20.03.2018 : The Andhra Pradesh Government had submitted a detailed project report in February 2018 on conversion of decommissioned aircraft carrier INS Viraat into a museum and hotel-cum-convention centre and it was under the consideration of the Ministry of Defence, according to Union Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre. The Minister gave the information on Monday replying to a question by V. Vijayasai Reddy in the Rajya Sabha on the status of DPR and when it will be brought to Visakhapatnam. The State government is committed to turning Viraat into a mega tourism attraction. Along with Kursura Submarine and TU 142 Aircraft Museum it is expected to complete Naval tourism circuit.
18.04.2017 : State tourism officials have officially zeroed in on Bheemili beach for setting up the INS Viraat museum. The request for proposal (RfP) for preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) was floated on Monday revealed the detailed cost estimates for refurbishment and conversion of INS Viraat into a major tourist destination at the proposed berthing site near Bheemili beach. AP tourism executive director R Sreeramulu Naidu told TOI that they preliminary identified three sites including Bheemili, Rushikonda and the beach front opposite Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in the city. However, after studying the three areas, they finalised Bheemili. Vast government land meant for tourism projects is available at Bheemili. Besides a jetty is also coming up under the Union shipping ministry's Sagaramala project. The jetty will be an added advantage for tourism. "We will finalise suitable agency for preparing the DPR in the next one week. We hope the DPR will be prepared in the next one or two months. The pre-bidding meeting will be held in the city on April 22. Once the DPR is prepared, we will approach the Union ministries for sending INS Viraat to the state," Sriramulu Naidu said.
12.04.2017 : INS Viraat: AP govt still eyeing tourism project - With the defence ministry and tourism ministry planning to convert the decommissioned INS Viraat into a tourism project anywhere in the country, the AP government is leaving no stone unturned to acquire the project. The tourism ministry is to convene a secretary-level meeting in New Delhi on April 13 with representatives of the states willing to take up the project. The state government has decided to send its tourism secretary to the meeting and explain the state's plans if it gets the decommissioned vessel. Speaking to TOI, AP tourism principal secretary N Srikanth said, "We are going to attend the meeting at New Delhi and explain our views and plans to convert INS Viraat into a tourism attraction through a power point presentation." Sources said representatives of other states like Goa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Gujarat will also participate in the secretary-level meeting.
01.12.2016 : IIT team to conduct EIA studies. It will suggest location of the ship on the coast in the city. A decision has been taken to rope in the services of a team of experts from IIT Madras to get an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) done for stationing of the INS Viraat on the Visakhapatnam coast, according to District Collector Pravin Kumar. The Collector held a review meeting with the stakeholders on the stationing of INS Viraat here on Wednesday. VUDA Vice Chairman T. Baburao Naidu, GVMC Commissioner N. Harinarayanan, representatives of the Indian Navy, National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Visakhapatnam Port, Department of Meteorology and Oceanography of Andhra University and KPMG consultants participated in the meeting. Mr. Pravin Kumar said that once the location was finalised, further measures could be taken for the early completion of the project.
18.09.2016 : INS Viraat likely to be in Vizag by early or middle 2017 - The aircraft carrier is to be decommissioned by this year-end.The iconic aircraft carrier, INS Viraat, is likely to be brought to the city by early or middle of the next year, Vice-Admiral H.C.S. Bisht, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command, said.
23.02.2016 : The Department of Tourism has begun the ground work to bring INS Viraat, the aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy, to Visakhapatnam as a tourist attraction. It is learnt that CRISIL, the AP Government, and the Navy are working on a feasibility report on the tourism project. The 24,000-tonne worlds oldest aircraft carrier is all set to be decommissioned in June this year, and it is likely to be handed to the Andhra Pradesh Government at a price of Re. 1 for converting it into a 500-room luxury hotel.
Proposal is being made to convert INS VIRAAT War Ship, which will be decommissioned very soon, into a Hotel, Museum on Vizag Smart City Sea Coast near Tenneti park beach / Jodugullapalem beach / Lawsons bay beach.

To bring this Warship from the sea to the Coast is very difficult and expensive, therefore, Govt has appointed Crisil to estimate the total expenditure to be incurred for this activity. If everything is going well, this will be materialised within a period of 6 months.
