Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (VUDA) is developing a state of the art IT City in 22.19 acres land at Madhurawada, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. VUDA is envisaging to develop a self-sustaining ecosystem with a walk to-work concept that creates jobs in IT/ ITES sector, provides housing and caters to the social & recreational needs. VUDA invites applications from interested enterprises and entrepreneurs for acquiring 'Readily built plug & play space' to setup their businesses in the VUDA IT-City. It will include sporting infra, malls, hotels, multiplexes. Further adding to the efforts to create IT space, VUDA has entered into an MoU with the State government in the recent partnership summit to set up an IT City at Madhurawada. VUDA initially wants to create one tower with five lakh sft. But not merely confining to IT, it plans to develop institutional space, with preference to IT, and supporting infrastructure in a total of 20 acres, according to VUDA Vice-chairman P. Basanth Kumar. 29.03.2018 - Govt. of Andhra Pradesh has issued a G.O.RT No.35 Dt: 27.03.2018 regarding take up the construction of Tower-B of Millennium Towers at Hill No.3, IT SEZ, Madhurawsada in #Visakhapatnam with a construction cost of Rs. 55 crore and instructed the The VC&MD, APIIC, shall take up the construction work of immediately. Already Tower-A completed and also two basements for parking for both the Towers completed.
15.02.2018 - Tower A of Millennium Towers should be up and running by March-end, 2018: APIIC. Nestled amidst verdant hills of Eastern Ghats on one side and the blue waters of the Bay of Bengal on another, the work on the iconic Millennium Tower - the new address for IT units in Visakhapatnam, is nearing completion. "We are working at a fast pace to complete the first phase of Tower A and parking for Tower A and B by end of the financial year," APIIC zonal manager C. Yathi Raju told The Hindu. While construction of three cellar-parking extending 1.5 lakh sft for both towers has been completed, the tower A will have a built-up area of two lakh sft. Tower B construction will be taken up later with a built-up area of one lakh sft.
16.02.2017 - Work is under progress - Millennium Tower to be ready by January, 2018. It will have 2,00,000 sq.ft. of built-up space for allotment to plug-and-play operators. Being executed by the AP Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) and funded by the Information and Communication Technology Department of Andhra Pradesh, the construction of the building will be completed by September. Excluding cost for the four acres on which it is coming up, Rs. 180 crore is being spent on construction.
"Work on construction is progressing in a fast-tract mode and we are confident of making it a landmark to promote IT in Visakhapatnam with focus on start-ups and companies specialising in financial technologies and new-age technologies such as blockchain, IoT, cloud computing, and cyber security," V. Srinivasa Moorthy, CEO of AP Electronics and IT Agency (APEITA) told. The APEITA is an autonomous agency promoted by the government with its headquarters at the Cyber Valley, Rushikonda.
The Millennium Tower will have 2,00,000 sq.ft. of built-up space for allotment to plug-and-play operators. In addition, it will have 1,50,000 sq.ft. of space for parking. Under the ambitious project located close to the Sunrise Incubation Hub, two towers will come up. The first is expected to be completed by June/July.

10.09.2016 - Work begins for Millennium Tower at Hill No. 3 in IT SEZ, Madhurawada. The APIIC had set a target to complete the works of the tower by August, 2017. In the first phase, around 2 lakh sft space will be available to allot for IT companies and subsequently in the next phase, another 1 lakh sft will be added to the Millennium Tower.
APIIC has invited an e-tender for the construction of Millennium Tower at Plot No. 16 & 17 (in 4 acres) at Hill No.3, IT SEZ, Madhurawada. Approximate value of the tender is 86.80 crore and the period of the work is 15 months and the last date of tender submission is 23.04.2016.
18.03.2016 : According to an IT department official, the Millenium Tower project at Hill 3 in Rushikonda will provide around 3 lakh sft to companies planning to set up offices in the Port City. "The Millenium Tower will be built on Plot No 16 and 17 of Hill 3 and it will be a government-constructed building for IT companies. This will be a permanent tower and is meant for IT companies focussing on Vizag as an IT destination," the official said, adding that the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) has prepared the request for proposal from interested parties for construction of the building.
The IT Department will have five floor tower to be named Millennium Tower with three lakh sft space that will come up in a four-acre land adjacent to the Madhurawada IT SEZ Incubation Tower. The first two floors will be for start-up units and the rest of three floors will be allotted for companies.

18.05.2017 - Nearly two years after the proposal to develop an IT layout was mooted by the state government, development work on the first-of-its-kind IT layout in the state has started at Kapuluppada.
Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) sources said the first phase of the project comprising an area of around 250 acres has been taken up for development at Kapuluppada. Sources said while the overall area earmarked for the IT cluster is around 1,350 acres, APIIC will initially focus on laying approach roads, installing streetlights and marking the plots for the integrated IT layout in order to attract tech firms to set up shop in the port city. "We are developing the Kapuluppada IT layout in a phased manner. We have started work on phase one on 250 acres. We will be laying the approach road and internal roads along with the streetlights and drains. The estimated cost is around Rs 20 crore," an APIIC official said. He said the total plotted area is around 150 acres and the remaining 100 acres will be a common green area for layiout. "We are expecting around 30 plots to be developed in the 150 acres," he said.

02.03.2018 : IIM-Visakhapatnam likely to move to own campus by 2021. Efforts on to take possession of land; construction may begin next year. Indian Institute of Management (IIM)- Visakhapatnam, which currently operates from a makeshift campus at Andhra University, is likely to move to its new campus by 2021. The Andhra Pradesh government has allotted about 240 acres of land in Gambheeram area to set up its own campus and the boundary wall also has been constructed. According to the Director of IIM-Visakhapatnam Prof. M. Chandrasekhar, efforts are on to take possession of the land by this month end. Speaking to The Hindu , he said that the DPR (Detailed Project Report) is ready and it is being studied by the Expenditure Finance Committee. IIM-V has been allotted Rs. 700 cores for capital expenditure and Rs. 500 crores for recurring expenditure.

05.08.2017 : The Lok Sabha passed a Bill for establishing the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) in Andhra Pradesh that will impart high quality education and conduct advance research in all aspects relating to the conventional hydrocarbons. The IIPE is being set up in Visakhapatnam at a cost of Rs. 650 crore as part of a package promised by the Centre to Andhra Pradesh after Telangana was carved out of it. The batch of students were admitted last year and the institute is currently functioning out of the Andhra University campus in Visakhapatnam. Moving 'The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy Bill, 2017', Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said the benefit of the institute would be accrued not only to Andhra Pradesh but India and the world as a whole. "It will have a futuristic impact... Youth will be benefited," he said, adding that it would cover both conventional and non-conventional forms of energy.
13.04.2017 : The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval for setting up of Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh as "an Institute of National Importance" through an Act of Parliament. The Institute will have the governance structure as well as legal mandate to grant degrees in a manner similar to that enjoyed by IITs. A separate Act will also impart the required status to the Institute to become a "Centre of Excellence" in petroleum and energy studies. The Cabinet has also approved Rs 655.46 crore as capital expenditure to set up IIPE and contribution of Rs 200 crore towards its Endowment Fund (in addition to a contribution of Rs 200 crore from Oil Companies towards the Endowment Fund).
Andhra Pradesh Government has allocated 200 acres of land, free of cost, for setting up of IIPE at Sabbavaram Mandal in Visakhapatnam district. IIPE has been registered as a Society under the AP Society Registration Act, 2001 on 18/04/2016. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 4th February between IIPE and Andhra University to start the IIPE sessions during the academic year 2016-17. The MoU is for a period of 3 years till the period IIPE sets up the infrastructure in its own premises. The MoU is facilitated by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.

02.07.2018: Skill Development University will be set up by the consortium of Oil Companies, HPCL, BPCL, IOC, GAIL and ONGC at Vangali Village, Sabbavaram mandal under Corporate Social Responsibility, with an estimated cost of Rs. 496 crores. State Government of Andhra Pradesh has agreed to give 100 acres of land and they will have an equity against this land. DPR has already been prepared and will be submitted to the State Govt.of Andhra Pradesh soon told by Mr. Nagesh, DGM - HPCL (HR-Mumbai). After allocation of land by the State Govt of AP, the SDU work will commence.
The State government has agreed in-principle to allot 100 acres for the SDU at Vangali village in Sabbavaram mandal. The oil companies will be investing about Rs. 496 crore to make it world-class. The DPR for the SDI complex has been prepared by the KPMG. It has been submitted to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Once the building is ready, it will turn into an international-class university. The campus will offer various job-ready courses for 23,000 students per annum.

31.05.2017 : After lying idle for two-and-a-half years since its foundation was laid, work for the shore-based laboratory of the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Vizag would begin soon as all required permissions have been procured and the financial aspects are currently being finalised. The upcoming lab in Yendada, along Vizag-Bheemili Beach Road, would have sea water intake facility through pipelines fitted with sensors for studying various parameters and research. This Rs 30.5 crore project is to be funded by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The laboratory is important because of the 38 CSIR-run institutions in India, NIO is the only one in entire AP and it's also the only ocean-research institute in the entire eastern coast.
National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) Visakhapatnam Regional Centre has its presence in the city since 1976 and presently has three rented premises. Its dream to have its own premises would be fulfilled once it moves to the new project proposed at Yendada on the Beach Road. Foundation stone for the dream project of the institute was laid in 2015 May. Scientists of the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) have to wait for some more time for their dream to have a world-class research lab and associated facilities in the City of Destiny.
The reason for the delay is attributed to procedures involved in getting clearance for revised estimates for the project from the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, and approval of building plan from Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority and the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. The complex will have smart buildings with water recycling, underground cabling and drainage, solar power and other facilities. It will be dedicated to undertake research on various aspects of the Bay of Bengal, including the characteristics of tidal waves, genesis of cyclones, biochemistry of ecosystem, rip current and beach profiling and monsoon prediction.

29.09.2017 - M/s Priyadarshini Educational Society and M/s Nova Educational society had enter into a lease agreement with Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Devasthanam, Simhachalam, for establishment of an International School under PPP mode in an extent of Ac.15.03 cents of land situated in Sy.No.12 of Adavivaram Village, for 33 years, with an estimated cost of Rs.93,00,00,000/-. A special purpose vehicle i.e., Mount Dios Educational Society was formed for undertaking the project. 17.03.2016 - Consortium of Anglo Schools (UK) and Nova-Priyadarshini group of institutions formed. International School strength would be around 2000. 11.04.2016 : Union Minister of State (Independent charge) for Labour Bandaru Dattatreya laid the foundation stone for construction of a 300-bed ESI Hospital, in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu, Ministers, MPs and MLAs at Sheela Nagar in the city.
The hospital will have all modern medical care facilities. Similarly, all ESI Hospitals in the State will be modernised. He said that the ESI Hospital in the city will be a boon to north Andhra and would meet the requirements of 191 lakh insured persons from the three districts. The patients will be referred from the 14 ESI Dispensaries, five panel clinics and one ESI Model dispensary-cum-diagnostic centre in the region. The existing ESI Hospital at Gandhigram at Scindia was established on January 26, 1972. The hospital was set up land taken on lease from the Visakhapatnam Port Trust (VPT). The lease period had expired and the building had reached a dilapidated stage. The new hospital building will come up in an extent of 6.80 acres and have all the facilities for secondary care medical treatment for the insured persons and their family members, according to a note issued by Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC).
Proposal for Govt. Dental College in Vizag Smart City is pending since long time. Proposal has been made to Medical Council of India (MCI) to set up Govt. Dental College, which will be affiliated to Andhra Medical College, to start with 100 seats. A report has been sent to the State Govt.of Andhra Pradesh regarding infrastructure required for setting up the Dental College.

26.02.2018 : Medical equipment and devices sector in State gets a boost. With an aim to boost the medical equipment and devices sector, the State government has signed 25 MoUs with a proposed investment of Rs. 8,000 crore with medical equipment manufacturing units on the second day of CII Partnership Summit here on Sunday. The projects will create 17,000 jobs, including direct employment to 5,000 persons. Poonam Malakondaiah, principal secretary of Health, Medical and Family Welfare Department, said 25 MoUs were signed for manufacturing medical equipment with an investment of Rs. 8,000 crore at AP MedTech Zone (AMTZ) being developed near Visakhapatnam. On the sidelines of CII Partnership Summit here, she told the media that the zone would be operational in phases from October.

20.08.2016 : Vizag to emerge as hub for medical devices: Naidu - Stone laid for medical devices park, the first of its kind in the country. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday said Visakhapatnam would become a hub for manufacturing medical devices by attracting 200 to 300 units with an investment of Rs. 25,000 crore to Rs. 30,000 crore to create 25,000 jobs. He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for India's first medical devices manufacturing park at Nadupuru in the Peda Gantyada mandal near the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant. Andhra Med Tech Zone Limited, a company floated by the government, will execute the project.
17.08.2016 : AP Transco to set up Asia's largest industrial substation for the proposed Andhra Med Tech Zone (AMTZ) in Vizag Smart City. This Med Tech Zone, which exclusively houses manufacturing units of medical equipment and is said to be South Asia's first dedicated medical devices manufacturing park is expected to draw very large volumes of electricity. The Park will comprise state-of-the-art facilicites such as specialized laboratories, warehousing and testing centre. The state government has earmarked about 226 acres for near Nadupuru vilage in Pedagantyada mandal for AMTZ and about 10 acres for was allocated to the Transco for this sub-station.

Andhra Pradesh Government has also issued appointment orders for Dr Jitendar Sharma, head of health technology department at National Health Systems Resource Centre (NHSRC) under the Union Health Ministry and Advisor - Health and Medical Technology to Government of Andhra Pradesh to be the chief executive officer for the AMTZ project. The park will provide modern state of art common facilities such as specialised laboratories, warehousing, testing centre apart from 100 to 150 independent manufacturing units, each in a built-in ready to use area of 0.5 to 1 acre each.

We have been importing 78% of devices from foreign countries for our needs till now, by setting up this plant our imports will be reduced and we also get the equipment for less price. 18.01.2018 : The Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of India (ALEAP) will set up a green industrial park in 50 acres at Gidijala in Anandapuram mandal. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, in whose presence Industries Minister Amarnath Reddy and South Asian Women Development Forum president Pramila Acharya Rijal signed an MoU for allotment of five acres in the same area for the establishment of the Women Entrepreneur International Trade and Technology Hub (WITH), on Wednesday promised to give 50 acres for the proposed green industrial corridor. ALEAP president B. Rama Devi told that the park would exclusively promote women entrepreneurs with common infrastructure and facilities. She said they would seek special grant from the World Bank for the project. The green industrial park is planned to be made a model and sustainable cluster of industries with associated facilities to encourage women entrepreneurs.
08.01.2018 : Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP) will set up a pellet plant at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. In this regard, RINL has entered into an agreement with Kudremukh Iron Ore Company Ltd (KIOCL). Under the MoU, RINL and Kurdremukh Iron Ore Co will set up a 1.2 million tonne per annum pellet plant project at Vizag, according to a release here on Sunday. Both the public-sector majors will float a joint venture (JV) for setting up the plant. RINL CMD P Madhusudan and KIOCL CMD MV Subba Rao exchanged the documents of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in the presence of Union Minister of Steel Chaudhary Birender Singh in Mangaluru on Saturday, said the RINL statement. CMD in the statement said that initially the capacity of the pellet plant would be 1.2 million tonne annually. "However, we have a provision to expand further as per requirement and demand."
02.07.2018 : Asian Paints to commission first phase of Pudi unit this fiscal. It plans to expand capacity to five lakh kl per annum. Asian Paints, one of the top five leading painting companies in Asia, will commission the first phase of its painting plant in Visakhapatnam district during the current financial year. The company, a loyal painting partner for many, has announced to produce three lakh kilo litres each from its Greenfield facilities in Visakhapatnam and Mysuru during the first phase.

31.05.2016 : Asian Paints selects Jacobs Engineering to contract Vizag plant. Asian Paints Ltd (APL) has awarded contract to the US-based Jacobs Engineering Group Inc to contract its proposed ₹ 1,750-crore decorative paints plant in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. As per the contract, Jacobs Engineering will provide engineering services for a greenfield paints plant.
Asian paints is going to set up a manufacturing facility near Pudi village, Atchutapuram SEZ with a capital cost Rs. 1750 crores. The Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (APIIC) is allotted 110 acres of land at Pudi village, Atchutapuram to Asian Paints for their manufacuturing facility. Asian Paints has already started work on soil investigation at the site of the proposed manufacturing facility, which is being setup with an investment of around ₹ 1,750 crore. The manufacturing facility will produce 4 lakh KL per annum of paints and is expected to be one of the biggest plants of Asian Paints in the country with direct employment generation of around 700 people. Asian Paints has already appointed agencies for soil investigation and started collecting data. Subsequently, they will have to obtain the terms of reference from the Union ministry of environment and forests," an APIIC official said, adding that subsequently the company will have to go for environmental impact assessment (EIA) studies. He said it will take about one year for Asian Paints to obtain all approvals from the environment ministry before the construction work on the plant actually begins.

The Visakh Refinery Modernisation Project (VRMP) of HPCL, to increase its production capacity from 8.33 million tonne to 15 million tonne per annum, has gathered pace with the awarding of engineering, procurement and construction contract for crude distillation and vacuum distillation units at a cost of Rs. 1600 crore.
16.11.2016 : Work is going on in full pace on the HPCL Visakh Refinery Modernisation Project to increase capacity from 8.33 to 15 million tonne per annum with bottom upgradation to produce BS VI fuels with an outlay of Rs 20,928 crore. The environmental clearance and consent to establish for the project have been received. Licensor selection and basis design and engineering packages are under progress.
24.08.2016 : HPCL board gives nod for Visakh Refinery expansion - The Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) board has given the go ahead for expansion of its Visakh Refinery in the city. The project envisages expansion of capacity from the current 8.33 mmtpa (million metric tonne per annum) to 15 mmtpa and is expected to bridge the product gap between the refining and marketing volumes of HPCL. According to HPCL, the project would involve a total capital cost of Rs 20,928 crore and would have bottom upgradation facility that will improve distillate yield on total refining capacity and thereby improve the GRM (gross refining margin). According to sources, the construction phase of the project is expected to take around 48 months.
State-owned Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd (HPCL) is looking to nearly double the capacity of its existing refinery at Malkapuram in Visakhapatnam with a total investment of Rs 17,000 crore. Under this expansion plan, it would increase capacity of Visakh Refinery to 15 million tons per annum (MPTA) from the existing 8.3 MPTA by the financial year 2019-20. The new investments will also go into residue up-gradation with slurry cracker besides helping the company produce products confirming to Euro V/VI emission norms. State-run HPCL has received the environmental clearance to expand its refinery at Visakhapatnam Smart City in Andhra Pradesh from 8.33 million tonne per annum to 15.0 MTPA. The Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC), under the Ministry of Environment and Forests, in its meeting held last month cleared the Rs 18,400 crore expansion plan.
Proposal for Electrical Transmission Line Tower (TLT) spare parts manufacturing company to be set up in Visakhapatnam in an area of 50 acres with a total capital cost Rs. 330 crores in a first phase which is to be completed in a period of 16 months. First phase capacity 1.2 lakhs tonnes per annum and in the second phase 1.8 lakhs per annum. This is a joint venture project of Vizag Steel Plant and Power grid corporation of India with 50:50 partnership and they are going to appoint a consultant for this project.
Ground-leveling work of the Kerneos India Technologies calcimum aluminate binder manufacturing facility is also underway Atchutapuram mandal. The plant, with an investment of Rs 120 crore, is spread over an area of 20.55 acres and will have a production capacity of 30,000 tonnes per annum of calcium aluminate binders in the first phase at Pudi village. The company had chosen the site due to easy access to two ports, Visakhapatnam and Gangavaram, and other advantages. They said the company was having 11 plants in the World and the Pudi plant would be the twelfth, the First in India. The plant, a highly automated one, would generate 100 jobs directly or indirectly.
27.04.2016 : Eisai Pharmaceuticals India Pvt. Ltd, a 100 per cent subsidiary of Eisai Co. Ltd of Japan, has embarked on expansion of its Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API) unit with an investment of Rs.40 crore. The company, which has its production unit at Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City, Parawada near here, will increase its API plant capacity from 30 tonnes in 2009 to 100 tonnes by constructing another block and increasing the capacity of warehouse by year-end.

04.06.2016 : Hindustan Coca-Cola Company is going to set up their unit at Rambilli mandal in Vizag Smart City, with an estimated project cost of Rs. 1375 crore in an area of 100 acres, which generates direct employment of around 3800 and indirect employment to another 4000 people. Andhra Pradesh State Cabinet has taken a decision to allot 100 acres to the company during the Cabinet meeting held on 1st June, 2016.

Visakhapatnam as Headquarter new Railway Zone in Andhra Pradesh to be formed, which is pending since long time. Govt. of India should announce new Railway Zone for Andhra Pradesh with "Visakhapatnam as its Headquarters" at the earliest, which is pending since more than two decades. The new Railway Zone consists Waltair, Vijayawada, Guntur and Guntakal divisions and the name of the new railway zone may be "South Coast Railway".

06.04.2018 : The works of the proposed composite-level grade separator (flyover) at the NAD junction commenced on Thursday after a special puja was conducted. District collector Pravin Kumar, Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (Vuda) vice chairman P Basanth Kumar, assistant commissioner of police (Traffic) K Prabhakar and other officials participated in the puja. Vuda and Vijay Nirman Company Private Limited entered into an agreement in November 2017. As per the agreement, the private agency has to conclude the flyover works within two years - November 2019.
20.03.2018 : Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority (Vuda) will seek the services of a 'project management consultant' for its ambitious multi-level grade separator (flyover) at the busy NAD junction of the city. The PMC will assist Vuda in construction supervision, quality assurance and auditing the designs of the flyover throughout the construction. The PMC will also help the contractor of the project in obtaining necessary permissions and approvals. Vuda vice-chairman P Basanth Kumar said that the NAD flyover designs are currently being vetted by the National Institute of Technology-Warangal. "The design evaluation process may take another one week. The contractor is likely to launch the works in the first week of April," said Basanth Kumar.

After a long lull, there has been some effort to pick up the threads on the proposed flyover at NAD Kotha Road. VUDA has invited bids for taking up the flyover work on Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) basis. "The offer inviting bids has been put on the website on July 7 and August 21 is the last date for making the bids," VUDA Vice-Chairman P Basanth Kumar said.

13.01.2017 : Public opinion to be sought on NAD Kotha Road flyover design.
NAD Kotha Road Flyover - Several months after government announced taking up construction of a flyover at the NAD Kotha Road- one of the busiest junctions in the city- the design is yet to be finalised. To take into consideration all opinions and technical aspects, VUDA now intends to keep the design on its website. "In the next few days the design that has been discussed widely and presented to the Chief Minister will be placed on the website and public opinion will be invited," sources told. After the process of public consultation is completed, finally it will be placed before the Chief Minister again. Tenders are expected to be called after finalsing the design for the construction of flyover the need for which is felt for a long time now, say sources. With the highway running through the city connecting the industrial area and the populous Gajuwaka and the airport located past NAD and air traffic increasing multi-fold, the busy junction has been a bottleneck. The flyover is among several projects VUDA is tasked by the Chief Minister to take up raising funds. The estimated cost is Rs.150 crore.

31.07.2018: Replying to a question in Rajya Sabha by YSRCP MP Vijai Sai Reddy, on when the 51-km six-laning of NH16 from Anandapuram to Anakapalle will be completed, Union Minister of State for Road Transport and Highways Mansukh L. Mandaviya said the work has been awarded in February 2018 and it was scheduled to be completed within 30 months from the appointed date.

03.03.2018: Construction works on the much-awaited six-laning of the 51-km Anandapuram-Anakapalle road via Pendurthi are all set to begin by June, 2018 in a major thrust to the construction of a bypass highway that would skirt Vizag city altogether. The ambitious project is expected to be finished by 2020, according to officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). Madhya Pradesh-based Dilip Buildcon Ltd (DBL) will execute the mammoth project under the Bharatmala Pariyojana Scheme. While the cost of the civil works will be around Rs 2,000 crores, the compensation amount for land that will be acquired by NHAI is estimated to be about Rs 300 crore. Confirming this to TOI, NHAI project director A Srinivasa Rao said DBL was finally awarded the six-laning of the 51-km long highway stretch. DBL will have to finish construction within 30 months from the date of starting the project.
05.10.2017: Progress in acquisition of land for Six laning of Anandapuram-Pendurthi-Anakapalli section of NH-16 along with four lane connectivity of the Visakhapatnam Port Road at Sheelanagar from Sabbavaram - Total design length 63.48 Km. Special Deputy Collector, Mr. A. Subba Raju said around 300.02 hectares of land procured from farmers for the project and the Government will try to pay the compensation to the farmers by November, 2017. The Central Government has sanctioned Rs.600 cr for land acquisition and Rs. 2400 cr for expansion of roads.
13.09.2017: Anandapuram to Anakapalli - 6 lane road. R&B Minister, Mr. Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu should take the initiative to speed up the land acquisition process of proposed Anandapuram to Anakapalli six lane road approximately 51 kms - NH-16 bypass Vizag City and NHAI should start the construction at the earliest. Widening the existing Anandapuram - Anakapalli road is supposed to be commenced in July 2017, but still the land acquisition is under process. Once the road is widened, vehicles plying from Srikakulam to Rajahmundry can be diverted at Anandapuram to reach Anakapalli without passing through the city. Likewise, vehicles from Rajahmundry can be diverted from Anakapali to Anandapuram where the original Chennai-Kolkata highway connects.
01.03.2017: The long-pending project of widening the Anakapalli-Anandapuram road is likely to commence in July this year with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) speeding up the land acquisition process. The existing double road will have certain portions developed into four-lane stretches while some portions will be developed into six-lane stretches to ease traffic woes faced by the people. Apart from the 50.6 km Anandapuram-Anakapalli highway, the NHAI has also taken up the widening project of the 13.6 km Sabbavaram-Sheelanagar port connectivity highway. Both the projects would cost Rs 3,000 crore including Rs 700 crore for land acquisition, sources said.

28.08.2018 : Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project cost reduced to Rs. 8,300 crore from Rs. 8,790 crore, because of model changed from Metro to Light Metro, the project will be executed under PPP model, Govt has to provide 52% of the project cost - Rs. 4,200 crore and the balance 48% - Rs. 4,100 crore by the Private firm. Exim bank of Korea has come forward to give a loan of Rs. 4,200 towards the share of Andhra Pradesh Govt. Five infrastructure companies - Adani Enterprises, Tata's TRIL Urban Transport, Shapoorji Pallonji and Company, Essel Infraprojects and IL&FS Rail have been short-listed. The Andhra Pradesh State Cabinet has to approve the above project. As per Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation Managing Director, Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy, there will be some progress in the Metro Rail Project at the earliest. Metro Rail Project will be executed by VUDA under the supervision of AMRC. 07.06.2018 : Metro: RFP document being readied. The project has been proposed on three corridors at a cost of Rs. 11,900 crore. The document for Request for Proposal for Light Metro for the city is being readied for submission to the State government. With the car capacity reduced from 250 to 200, it is now being referred to Light Metro and all other details worked out in the earlier Detailed Project Report hold good, say sources. The Metro, for which the detailed project report (DPR) has been prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, is proposed on three corridors with a total length of 42.5 km at a cost of Rs. 11,900 crore in September 2015. The RFP document has to be approved by the State government after which it will be released to the five companies that qualified. In the PPP proposals, land parcels are to be allotted by the State government. After approval by the Government of Andhra Pradesh, they will be sent to the Union Government.
28.02.2018 : Five firms in race for Vizag metro. Five infrastructure companies - Adani Enterprises, Tata's TRIL Urban Transport, Shapoorji Pallonji and Company, Essel Infraprojects and IL&FS Rail - have evinced interest in developing the Visakhapatnam Metro Rail project in the public-private partnership mode. In another 15 to 20 days, the proposals would be examined to short list eligible bidders and with the approval of the State government short-listed companies would be announced after a month, the release said. It would take another five months for the UMTC to select a suitable developer for the project. The rail project, worth Rs. 8,800 crore, is initially designed with three corridors of 42.5 km length.

13.10.2017 : Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project : Pre bid meeting for development of VMRP on an innovative PPP model held on 12th October, 2017 at Visakhapatnam. 20.05.2017: Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project is progressing at a snails pace. The detailed project report on the three Metro corridors, with the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation as consultants, was prepared and submitted to the State government in August 2015 and approved by the AP State Cabinet during Nov, 2015. It is still under appraisal of the Union government.

Urban and Municipal Administration Chief Secretary, Mr. Karikala Valavan has been issued orders in this regard.

The idea is to make the project more sustainable for the developer and affordable for the public, according to Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) MD NP. Ramakrishna Reddy. "The State government will be contributing to 20 per cent of the Rs.13,488 crore in the form of government land which is abundantly available in Visakhapatnam. Another 20 per cent of the cost will come from the Central government. The rest of the burden will be borne by the private developer," Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy told The Hindu .
28.07.2016: Central & State Governments have decided to construct the Vizag Metro Rail Project under PPP basis. Hopefully, the first phase corridor from Kommadi to Gajuwaka should alteast commence by early next year. Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation MD, Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy, who is also looking after the Vizag Metro Rail project works, visited the Metro Rail project corridors in the City along with the officials of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, also met the District Collector, Mr. Pravin Kumar regarding land acquisition for metro project. Revised project cost is Rs. 13,488 crores, out of this 20% sanctioned by Central Govt as grant, 20% state government's share and the balance 60% from private companies.

Vizag Smart City Metro Rail Project gets Govt. of Andhra Pradesh Cabinet nod. The project works, which will be started in the early 2016, are expected to be completed the first phase (Madhurawada to Gajuwaka corridor) by end Dec,2018 and the remaining two corridors (Thatichetlapalem to Old Post Office via Railway Station, Gurudwara to Park Hotel) by end 2020.
According to sources, it would take atleast another 3-4 months for the DPR to get the Union Urban Development Ministry's nod and form a special purpose vehicle to entrust the responsibility of Metro Work.

17.05.2017: Railway works to be delayed. Proposal submission time for vizag railway station re-development project extended. The redevelopment of vizag railway station might get delayed as the last date of submission of technical proposal has been extended from May 24 to June 26.
11.05.2017: As a part of Railway Station Development Project introduced by the Indian Railways, the Visakhapatnam Railway Station will be upgraded with two additional platforms coming up on the Gnanapuram side for which action plan is in progress.
09.02.2017: Railways plan to lease out vacant land to redevelop Visakhapatnam station. Nearly 19,000 square metres of vacant land available with the Visakhapatnam railway station will be commercially exploited to give a facelift to the premier station. The estimated project cost is Rs 200 crore.
This was officially announced on Wednesday at the launching of phase-1 of railway station redevelopment programme by the Union railway ministry. Railway minister Suresh Prabhu formally announced it through a video-conference with the heads of select railway stations including Vizag from New Delhi in the presence of the media. We initially selected about 400 stations across the country including Vizag for redevelopment. In the first phase, we will redevelop 23 major railway stations.
While talking about Vizag station, Waltair divisional railway manager Chandralekha Mukherjee said the 19,000 square metres of vacant land comprises two parcels. One is 15,400 square meters and second one is 3,600 square metres. The available land is encroachment free and land titles are available with the railways. The revenue generated from commercial exploitation of the vacant land will be used to develop the Vizag station into a world-class one. The surplus generated will be used to fund modernisation of satellite railway stations. Railways will not require additional funding for development of the station, Mukherjee said. The invitation document was issued on February 8 and the last date of submission is May 24.
02.04.2018 : Wagon POH to be ready by March next. It will provide employment to 300 workers. A state-of-the-art Wagon POH (Periodic Over Haul) workshop, which will provide employment to 300 workers besides facilitating repair of 200 wagons a month, is expected to start functioning at Vadlapudi in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC) limits, in about a year's time. The project, coming up on a 178-acre land, will have lathe wheel machines, cranes, repair sheds, paint booths and a 16-km loop line within the premises.
12.02.2018 : Wagon overhauling workshop in city to be completed by Dec 2019. The much-anticipated wagon periodical overhauling (WPO) workshop of Indian Railways in Visakhapatnam is scheduled to be completed by December 2019. The railway ministry has granted Rs 150 crore for the project in the 2018-19 railway budget. MS Mathur, divisional railway manager, Waltair railway division of East Coast Railway Zone, told TOI: "The work order has already been given and construction is on. The project is scheduled to be completed by December 2019. It is a prestigious project of Waltair division."

02.01.2018: Waltair Divisional Railway Manager, Mr. Mathur said the foundation stone for construction of a Wagon POH workshop at Vadlapudi, located in GVMC limits, was already laid. The contract was awarded and the work has already begun and is scheduled for completion in mid-2019.
16.06.2017: The foundation stone for the Wagon Periodical Overhauling workshop at Vadlapudi in Vizag Smart City was laid by Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu and Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu along with rail infra development works, through video link from Vijayawada on Thursday (15.06.2017).
Construction of the wagon periodical overhauling (WPO) workshop at Vadlapudi under Waltair division of East Coast Railway is likely to start in the next fiscal as the Union railway budget sanctioned 80 crore to the project. The project is expected to be completed by 2020. At present, Andhra Pradesh has one such workshop at Vijayawada. Vizag's will be second and first modern workshop with advanced facilities in the state. The Railway Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), which was entrusted with the task of developing the project, had completed its ground survey and preparation of the detailed project report (DPR). The DPR has been approved by the Railway Board and subsequently, the railway ministry gave its nod to start construction within the next few months, railway sources said.
"The massive budget allocation to WPO in the new fiscal is a good sign. We will take up construction of the workshop on a prioritised basis," ECoR divisional railway manager Chandralekha Mukherjee told.The project was sanctioned in 2015-16 at a cost of 213.97 crore. The ministry sanctioned 30 crore in the same budget to begin the works. However, work got delayed due to many reasons and has now resumed with the sanction of 80 crore in the new budget.
Initially, ECoR was in-charge of the project, which was later handed over to the Workshop Projects Organisation in Patna. Now, the Railway Board has handed it over to RVNL."The WPO is a major project of the railways. It will be a boon to Vizag, which is going to be developed as a smart city. The workshop can attend to generation, repair and maintenance of wagons of passenger trains, goods and oil tankers. Modern facilities will be added to the workshop," a senior railway official said. Initially, ECoR was in-charge of the project, which was later handed over to the Workshop Projects Organisation in Patna. Now, the Railway Board has given it to RVNL.
23.07.2018 : A multi-level car parking facility (MLCP), which has been in the news for the last two years, is soon going to be a reality. The tenders have been finalised for what will be the first MLCP of Vizag city. The project, mooted under the Vizag Smart City initiative, will come up on a 367.8 square metres land pocket next to Jagadabama junction of the city. Quoted by the successful bidder for Rs 9.7 crore, the MLCP will provide parking facility for 100 car spaces through a five-level structure of puzzle parking system.
04.09.2017 : Integrated Sports Complex proposed earlier at Gandigundam now moved to Aganampudi, where Government identified 156 acres of land under survey no.24. The Resident Commissioner of AP Bhavan, New Delhi, Praveen Prakash visited the site on Saturday, Collector and other officials explained him about the sports complex.
17.10.2016 : VUDA Vice Chairman, Mr. Baburao Naidu said that Govt has decided to construct Integrated Sports Complex only at Gandigundam. Primarily four designs prepared by VUDA for the sports complex are under consideration and they will finalize one design out of them and start construction. Estimated cost of the project is Rs. 400 cr, with a seating capacity of 50000 people and also the stadium will be constructed to facilitate playing 32 types sports.

A meeting with architects on the design of the Multi Sports Complex proposed at Gandigundam was held on The stadium coming up over 79 acres will have facilities for 32 Sports. Chief Minister, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu proposed the stadium with the object of hosting the 2018 National Games. VUDA, Vice Chairman, Mr. Baburao Naidu asked the architects to submit the designs by May 14. The designs should include facilities for coaching, ample green cover and multi-level and underground parking.

The tourism complex will integrate the TU-142 aircraft museum, INS Kursura submarine museum, Victory at Sea memorial, Rajiv Smrithi Bhavan, Sea Harrier Museum and others located within the immediate vicinity of one another and also underground parking facility with a capacity of 800 cars and 400 two-wheelers. 25.02.2018 : Abu Dhabi-based LuLu Group on Saturday (24.02.2018) launched work on an International Convention Centre, a five star hotel and a retail mall at APIIC grounds at Harbour Park here to promote meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions (MICE) tourism in Visakhapatnam. By unveiling a plaque, Vice-President M. Venkaiah Naidu laid the foundation stone for the ambitious project at the inaugural of three-day CII Partnership Summit and Sunrise AP Investment Meet in the presence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Union Ministers Suresh Prabhu and P. Ashok Gajapathi Raju. "We hope to complete this prestigious project by 2021 by providing direct jobs for 5,000 and indirect jobs for another 5,000," LuLu Group's Chairman & MD Yusuff Ali MA told the media.

Lulu group announced that they would be investing Dh1.7 billion in the construction of a shopping mall, a five-star hotel and a convention centre in Andhra Pradesh at Visakhapatnam, it was announced on Monday. "Andhra Pradesh being the newest state in India has a tremendous potential for investments in various sectors especially in hospitality and retail. We've had many rounds of fruitful discussions with the government of Andhra Pradesh and the speed with which they approved our project is commendable. 28.01.2017 : Chief Minister, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu announced during the CII Partnership Summit 2017 that Govt is going to build a Mega Convention center, Hotel, Multiplexes, Shopping Complex at APIIC Ground, Harbour Park, where the CII summit is being held within 12 months and hopefully the next CII Partnership Summit or Sunrise AP Investment Meet 2018 will be held in that Convention Center.
As per the latest development, Govt handed over the responsibility to APIIC, GVMC and VUDA officials to assess the estimated cost and the officers estimated that Rs. 500 crores required for construction of International Convention Center with 3,000 seating capacity, 5 star hotel, Exhibition halls, Commercial complex. The distance from Airport to the proposed Convention center is 12 Kms and from the Railway station is 3 kms only and it is also nearer to the sea coast.
In order to promote the growth of the Hospitality sector and Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, Exhibitions (MICE) under tourism industry in the state, and thereby to give an impetus to the local economy, it is envisaged to develop a Convention Center in Visakhapatnam Smart City.
09.03.2018 : SPI Cinemas in Visakhapatnam - Govt of AP accord permission vide G.O. Ms. No.93 dt: 08.03.2018 to the Commissioner, GVMC to enter into an agreement with M/s. SPI Cinemas Pvt. Ltd for development of Family Entertainment Centre (FEC) consisting of MICE, I-Max and Multiplex, Hotel in the GVMC's land to an extent of Ac. 2.70 Cents at D. No.10-3-20, 10-3-19/6,7,8 at CBM Compound, near Sampath Vinayaka Temple, under Land Lease-Cum-Development Model.
The FEC comprises meetings, incentives, conferencing and exhibitions (MICE), I-Max and multiplex. the developer shall also build a three-star hotel having a minimum of 150 rooms constructed over a period of time on the basis of market demand.

06.09.2017: Vizag to get India's longest ropeway at Dolphin's Nose. The project is a part of renovation or re-development of Kailasagiri tourism spot which will be funded by the World Bank. The rope way from Kailasagiri to Dolphin's Nose may pass over the entire RK Beach Road stretch covering nearly 12 km. An Ahmedabad-based consulting agency, SAI Consulting has been asked to study the viability of the stretch and prepare a detailed project report (DPR). APTDC divisional manager TV Sudarshana Rao said that if the project is con firmed for the stretch between Kailasagiri and Dolphin's Nose, it will be a cynosure of the city. "Tourists can have a panoramic view of the sea on one side and lush green hills on the other while travelling in the glass-domed cable cars" he said.

08.02.2017: India's tallest Iconic Sky Tower 400 feet high will be coming up atop Kailasagiri Hill in Vizag Smart City, with an estimated project cost of ₹ 85 crore. VUDA will soon enter into an agreement with the German company, HUSS Park Attractions for building the sky tower.
CEO of Huss Park Attractions, German Company, Mirko J Schulze along with his Vice President, India operations, Vibhisha Jain arrived Vizag on monday to inspect the site atop kailasagir hill and interact with the local officials for building the 400 feet high iconic sky tower. The team visited the proposed project sige at Kailasagiri and collected soil samples and suggested that a typhoon grade tower has to be constructed to withstand a wind speed of 300 kmph. The German company needed 12 months to commission the project. The promoters signed an MOU with the State Government of Andhra Pradesh during the recent CII Partnership Summit and probably this will be the first tourism project to be put on fast track for execution.
14.03.2018 - The process for finalising a design for Mudasarlova Park abutting the picturesque reservoir has been finalised. Signature pavilion with local language motif, front walkway, theme village with local crafts and food-court, ship-shaped theme restaurant, central water body and forest board walk are among the developments proposed, according to a presentation of designs. VUDA intends to develop a theme- based park that is economically viable and environmentally sustainable. The cost is estimated around Rs. 30 crore and is expected to be lower once competitive bids are called. VUDA will spend on the development from its own funds, says VUDA Vice-Chairman P Basanth Kumar. The plans of VUDA and the corporation cover development in 20 acres retaining the greenery and ecological sensitive nature of the area. The park has water supply facilities of GVMC in it and is a favourite with the local people for picnics during Kartikam.
23.01.2018 - Mudasarlova facelift plan set to be finalised in two weeks - On January 10, representatives of Design Accord presented their proposals before Vuda and AP Urban Greening and Beautification Corporation Ltd. After incorporating the changes and suggestions of the officials over the project plan, Design Accord is expected to come up with the final project plan in the next two-three weeks. Later, the final plan will be presented before chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu to seek his opinion. The proposals envisaged as part of the park redevelopment include a mega open air theatre, theme village, exhibition and multipurpose hall, kids' park, festival ground and literature gallery among others. Vuda is also planning to develop an 8-acre mango orchard in the park into a dedicated picnic spot to attract more people during the the holiday season and auspicious months such as Karthika Masam. A senior Vuda official said they want to give the park a unique look compared to other parks in the city. "The ecology of the park will be integrated into the redevelopment. The plan is not to disturb even a single shrub of the park," said the official.

GVMC proposed to develop Mudasarlova Park in an area of 150 acres with an estimated cost of ₹ 30 cr. Beautiful landscapping, childrens park, gymnasium, yoga zone, golf court, jungle book tree house, musical fountain, walking, cycling tracks, water sports, conference rooms, auditorium for cultural programmers, sitout lawns are to be provided in the park.
18.09.2018 : Redevelopment works of Kambalakonda Eco Tourism Park have started and it would take atleast one and a half year to give the park a complete makeover. World Bank has sanctioned Rs. 10 crore under AP Disaster Recovery Project for the park. Night camping and water sports will be the new attractions in the park. The forest officials have also planned to include an Animal Rescue Center (ARC) for setting up a deer safari after two years.
Development of Kambalakonda Nature Park into an ideal destination for eco-tourism park. On a sprawling 7,146 hectares on National Highway 16 lies the Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary. This reserve forest is one of the major green zones in the city, complete with green hills, forests and a reservoir. DFO said that World Bank has sanctioned Rs. 1.29 for development of Kambalakonda. With the funds, we plan to build a natural trekking path, circulation tanks, jetty, desilt the check dams, repair the river crossing unit or the ropeway, get new fibre boats and life jackets, ensure essential amenities for visitors, install a chained mesh around the park to prevent escape of deer or other animals and set up streetlights and fire-fighting equipment.
Vanamahotsavam festival at Kambalakonda! In the reserve forest of Kambalakonda wildlife sanctuary around 2000 saplings planted. This reserve forest spread over 7,146 hectares no other city in India has that much of forest.
As part of the formation of city forests, part of kambalakonda wildlife sanctuary was identified for development of Maha Viskha Nagar Vanam covering an extent of 160.19 hectares. The components of Maha Visakha Nagar Vanam are formation of walking path, childrens park, watch towers, rest places, trekking path, butterfly park, theme park, environmental education centre, night safari, plantation of native and ornamental forest species.
23.01.2018 : Master plan for zoo in final stage - The master plan for the redevelopment of the zoo park has been taken over by Learn Nature Consultancy, Raipur. Under the APDRP, Rs. 36 crore has been allocated to the zoo for carrying out redevelopment work. The master layout plan that the consultancy developed comprises disaster proof animal houses, additional conservation and breeding centres, establishment of visitor amenities with international standards also catering for physically challenged persons, veterinary and hospital infrastructure with mobile incentive care and rescue centres, infrastructure development including implementation of e-governance, CC network implementation for surveillance, interpretation centres, orientation centres, development of zoo education and research centres, road widening and parking. "The work is expected to begin by the beginning of the next financial year," zoo curator B. Vijay Kumar said. Among other initiatives, the zoo authorities are also planning to start 'green' practices to make the IGZP a 100 percent plastic-free zone.

Reevelopment of Beaches from Bheemili to Revupolvaram in Vizag Smart City. AP Tourism should start redevelopment works of beaches at Bheemili, Mangamaripeta, Thotlakonda, Rushikonda, Saagar Nagar, RK Beach, Yarada, Gangavaram, Muthyalammapalem, Appikonda, Tantadi, Pudimadaka and Revupolavaram.
They should provide facilities like Water Sports, Beach volley ball, Beach Kabaddi, Para Sailing, Amusement Parks, Beach Shacks, Beach side Chairs, Cottages, Restaurants, Toilets etc. Casinos and Beer Parlours in some of these beaches to attract more tourists to the Vizag Smart City.

Also small luxury ship tourism should be introduced from Bheemili to RK Beach, RK Beach to Pudimadaka / Revupolavaram. The operators of these small luxury ships should provide restaurant, drinks, music, games etc in the Ship.
Cruise liners will be operated between Vizag to Andaman, Lakshadweep, Srilanka & Singapore. Small Cruise ships can be introduced to places like Kakinada Hope Island, Kalingapatnam beach, Bheemili, Yarada, Revupolavaram. Tourists can leave in the morning and return by evening spending time on the high seas.
20.03.2018 : The Andhra Pradesh Government had submitted a detailed project report in February 2018 on conversion of decommissioned aircraft carrier INS Viraat into a museum and hotel-cum-convention centre and it was under the consideration of the Ministry of Defence, according to Union Minister of State for Defence Subhash Bhamre. The Minister gave the information on Monday replying to a question by V. Vijayasai Reddy in the Rajya Sabha on the status of DPR and when it will be brought to Visakhapatnam. The State government is committed to turning Viraat into a mega tourism attraction. Along with Kursura Submarine and TU 142 Aircraft Museum it is expected to complete Naval tourism circuit.
18.04.2017 : State tourism officials have officially zeroed in on Bheemili beach for setting up the INS Viraat museum. The request for proposal (RfP) for preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) was floated on Monday revealed the detailed cost estimates for refurbishment and conversion of INS Viraat into a major tourist destination at the proposed berthing site near Bheemili beach. AP tourism executive director R Sreeramulu Naidu told TOI that they preliminary identified three sites including Bheemili, Rushikonda and the beach front opposite Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in the city. However, after studying the three areas, they finalised Bheemili. Vast government land meant for tourism projects is available at Bheemili. Besides a jetty is also coming up under the Union shipping ministry's Sagaramala project. The jetty will be an added advantage for tourism. "We will finalise suitable agency for preparing the DPR in the next one week. We hope the DPR will be prepared in the next one or two months. The pre-bidding meeting will be held in the city on April 22. Once the DPR is prepared, we will approach the Union ministries for sending INS Viraat to the state," Sriramulu Naidu said.
12.04.2017 : INS Viraat: AP govt still eyeing tourism project - With the defence ministry and tourism ministry planning to convert the decommissioned INS Viraat into a tourism project anywhere in the country, the AP government is leaving no stone unturned to acquire the project. The tourism ministry is to convene a secretary-level meeting in New Delhi on April 13 with representatives of the states willing to take up the project. The state government has decided to send its tourism secretary to the meeting and explain the state's plans if it gets the decommissioned vessel. Speaking to TOI, AP tourism principal secretary N Srikanth said, "We are going to attend the meeting at New Delhi and explain our views and plans to convert INS Viraat into a tourism attraction through a power point presentation." Sources said representatives of other states like Goa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Gujarat will also participate in the secretary-level meeting.
01.12.2016 : IIT team to conduct EIA studies. It will suggest location of the ship on the coast in the city. A decision has been taken to rope in the services of a team of experts from IIT Madras to get an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) done for stationing of the INS Viraat on the Visakhapatnam coast, according to District Collector Pravin Kumar. The Collector held a review meeting with the stakeholders on the stationing of INS Viraat here on Wednesday. VUDA Vice Chairman T. Baburao Naidu, GVMC Commissioner N. Harinarayanan, representatives of the Indian Navy, National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Visakhapatnam Port, Department of Meteorology and Oceanography of Andhra University and KPMG consultants participated in the meeting. Mr. Pravin Kumar said that once the location was finalised, further measures could be taken for the early completion of the project.
18.09.2016 : INS Viraat likely to be in Vizag by early or middle 2017 - The aircraft carrier is to be decommissioned by this year-end.The iconic aircraft carrier, INS Viraat, is likely to be brought to the city by early or middle of the next year, Vice-Admiral H.C.S. Bisht, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command, said.
23.02.2016 : The Department of Tourism has begun the ground work to bring INS Viraat, the aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy, to Visakhapatnam as a tourist attraction. It is learnt that CRISIL, the AP Government, and the Navy are working on a feasibility report on the tourism project. The 24,000-tonne worlds oldest aircraft carrier is all set to be decommissioned in June this year, and it is likely to be handed to the Andhra Pradesh Government at a price of Re. 1 for converting it into a 500-room luxury hotel.
Proposal is being made to convert INS VIRAAT War Ship, which will be decommissioned very soon, into a Hotel, Museum on Vizag Smart City Sea Coast near Tenneti park beach / Jodugullapalem beach / Lawsons bay beach.
Modern Hotel with 500 rooms and also conference rooms. Also Govt of AP proposes Helicopter riding, Para sailing on INS Viraat onboard. To bring this Warship from the sea to the Coast is very difficult and expensive, therefore, Govt has appointed Crisil to estimate the total expenditure to be incurred for this activity. If everything is going well, this will be materialised within a period of 6 months.
