16.05.2017 : District collector Pravin Kumar has urged the tourism, GVMC, Vuda and naval authorities to expedite the aircraft museum project and ensure that it is completed before inauguration on August 15. The recently decommissioned aircraft TU-142 M is being transformed into a museum on the Beach Road.
Speaking at a review meeting here on Monday, the collector urged the concerned officials to design the museum in such a manner that it is at par with international aircraft museums. However, he was informed that the Andhra University authorities are yet to hand over the proposed site on AU Grounds for the project following which he spoke to the university registrar and told him to hand over the land immediately. The project is being taken up at a cost of Rs 10 crore and will be a part of the tourism mega complex that includes the Victory at Sea Memorial, Kursura Submarine Museum, Convention Hall and Visakha Museum. 09.04.2017 : Navy's flagship anti-submarine Aircraft Tu-142M will be turned into a museum at beach road opposite Submarine Museum in Vizag Smart City. At a special ceremony on 08.04.2017 at INS Dega, the aircraft that served the Indian Navy for over 29 years and has flown over 30,000 hours, was given a ceremonial salute by two water cannons and was received on the tarmac by Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu, Commander-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command Vice-Admiral H.C.S. Bisht and Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju among other dignitaries.

28.01.2017 : Chief Minister, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu announced during the CII Partnership Summit 2017 that Govt is going to build a Mega Convention center, Hotel, Multiplexes, Shopping Complex at APIIC Ground, Harbour Park, where the CII summit is being held within 12 months and hopefully the next CII Partnership Summit or Sunrise AP Investment Meet 2018 will be held in that Convention Center.
As per the latest development, Govt handed over the responsibility to APIIC, GVMC and VUDA officials to assess the estimated cost and the officers estimated that Rs. 500 crores required for construction of International Convention Center with 3,000 seating capacity, 5 star hotel, Exhibition halls, Commercial complex. The distance from Airport to the proposed Convention center is 12 Kms and from the Railway station is 3 kms only and it is also nearer to the sea coast.
In order to promote the growth of the Hospitality sector and Meetings, Incentives, Conferencing, Exhibitions (MICE) under tourism industry in the state, and thereby to give an impetus to the local economy, it is envisaged to develop a Convention Center in Visakhapatnam Smart City.

08.02.2017: India's tallest Iconic Sky Tower 400 feet high will be coming up atop Kailasagiri Hill in Vizag Smart City, with an estimated project cost of ₹ 85 crore. VUDA will soon enter into an agreement with the German company, HUSS Park Attractions for building the sky tower.
CEO of Huss Park Attractions, German Company, Mirko J Schulze along with his Vice President, India operations, Vibhisha Jain arrived Vizag on monday to inspect the site atop kailasagir hill and interact with the local officials for building the 400 feet high iconic sky tower. The team visited the proposed project sige at Kailasagiri and collected soil samples and suggested that a typhoon grade tower has to be constructed to withstand a wind speed of 300 kmph. The German company needed 12 months to commission the project. The promoters signed an MOU with the State Government of Andhra Pradesh during the recent CII Partnership Summit and probably this will be the first tourism project to be put on fast track for execution.

Development of Kambalakonda Nature Park into an ideal destination for eco-tourism park. On a sprawling 7,146 hectares on National Highway 16 lies the Kambalakonda Wildlife Sanctuary. This reserve forest is one of the major green zones in the city, complete with green hills, forests and a reservoir. DFO said that World Bank has sanctioned Rs. 1.29 for development of Kambalakonda. With the funds, we plan to build a natural trekking path, circulation tanks, jetty, desilt the check dams, repair the river crossing unit or the ropeway, get new fibre boats and life jackets, ensure essential amenities for visitors, install a chained mesh around the park to prevent escape of deer or other animals and set up streetlights and fire-fighting equipment.

03.09.2016 : Stone set to Vysakhi Kala Tarangini Auditorium by HRD Minister, Mr. Ganta Srinivasa Rao and Panchayat Raj Minister, Mr. Ayyanna Patrudu - VUDA is deloping the Auditorium at a cost of Rs. 32.5 crore and the construction is expected to be completed within 18 months from now. Vysakhi Kala Tarangini Auditorium will come up in an extent of 1.49 acres adjacent to Rythu Bazaar in MVP Colony. It will have 3 convention halls, mini amphi theatre, mini out door theatre and shopping arena. Facility is also being created to park about 100 cars and 200 two wheelers. Ravindra Bharati-like cultural complex to be built by VUDA on 1.6-acre site in MVP Colony beside Rythu Bazaar with a seating capacity of 1500 seats. HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao said a landmark auditorium with a cost of Rs.30 crore would come up at MVP Colony, making the city a cultural hub.

25.08.2016 : MoU signed for heli-tourism - Chopper services to be operated from Dasara - Paving the way for starting of helicopter tourism from Dasara, VUDA and Sky Choppers Logistics Private Limited signed an MoU here on Wednesday in the presence of HRD Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao. The HRD Minister said the agency would be allotted 1.95 acres of land on lease for construction of helipad and three rooms at VUDA Park to operate the services in lieu of payment of Rs.50,000 a month to VUDA. VUDA secretary A. Srinivas and Chandrasekhar of the agency signed the MoU. Two packages - one covering Kailasagiri to Bhimunipatnam and second covering Agency areas of Araku and Lammasingi would be offered. The fare and modalities will be worked out by VUDA and the agency. The passengers will have an insurance cover of Rs.10 lakh.
Sky Choppers Logistics Private Limited has entered into an MOU with Govt. of Andhra Pradesh for providing Heli-Tourism services in Vizag Smart City. First phase, they operate from Vuda Park to Kailasagiri and to Araku Valley, it will take 5 minutes from VUDA park to Kailasagiri and 20 minutes from VUDA Park to Araku valley, maximum seating capacity is 5 passengers.
According to Mr. Chandrasekhar, Business Development Director, Sky Choppers, Heli-Tourism in the city will be inaugurated soon.

18.04.2017 : State tourism officials have officially zeroed in on Bheemili beach for setting up the INS Viraat museum. The request for proposal (RfP) for preparation of the detailed project report (DPR) was floated on Monday revealed the detailed cost estimates for refurbishment and conversion of INS Viraat into a major tourist destination at the proposed berthing site near Bheemili beach. AP tourism executive director R Sreeramulu Naidu told TOI that they preliminary identified three sites including Bheemili, Rushikonda and the beach front opposite Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in the city. However, after studying the three areas, they finalised Bheemili. Vast government land meant for tourism projects is available at Bheemili. Besides a jetty is also coming up under the Union shipping ministry's Sagaramala project. The jetty will be an added advantage for tourism. "We will finalise suitable agency for preparing the DPR in the next one week. We hope the DPR will be prepared in the next one or two months. The pre-bidding meeting will be held in the city on April 22. Once the DPR is prepared, we will approach the Union ministries for sending INS Viraat to the state," Sriramulu Naidu said. 12.04.2017 : INS Viraat: AP govt still eyeing tourism project - With the defence ministry and tourism ministry planning to convert the decommissioned INS Viraat into a tourism project anywhere in the country, the AP government is leaving no stone unturned to acquire the project. The tourism ministry is to convene a secretary-level meeting in New Delhi on April 13 with representatives of the states willing to take up the project. The state government has decided to send its tourism secretary to the meeting and explain the state's plans if it gets the decommissioned vessel. Speaking to TOI, AP tourism principal secretary N Srikanth said, "We are going to attend the meeting at New Delhi and explain our views and plans to convert INS Viraat into a tourism attraction through a power point presentation." Sources said representatives of other states like Goa, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Gujarat will also participate in the secretary-level meeting. 01.12.2016 : IIT team to conduct EIA studies. It will suggest location of the ship on the coast in the city. A decision has been taken to rope in the services of a team of experts from IIT Madras to get an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) done for stationing of the INS Viraat on the Visakhapatnam coast, according to District Collector Pravin Kumar. The Collector held a review meeting with the stakeholders on the stationing of INS Viraat here on Wednesday. VUDA Vice Chairman T. Baburao Naidu, GVMC Commissioner N. Harinarayanan, representatives of the Indian Navy, National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Visakhapatnam Port, Department of Meteorology and Oceanography of Andhra University and KPMG consultants participated in the meeting. Mr. Pravin Kumar said that once the location was finalised, further measures could be taken for the early completion of the project.
18.09.2016 : INS Viraat likely to be in Vizag by early or middle 2017 - The aircraft carrier is to be decommissioned by this year-end.The iconic aircraft carrier, INS Viraat, is likely to be brought to the city by early or middle of the next year, Vice-Admiral H.C.S. Bisht, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Naval Command, said.
23.02.2016 : The Department of Tourism has begun the ground work to bring INS Viraat, the aircraft carrier of the Indian Navy, to Visakhapatnam as a tourist attraction. It is learnt that CRISIL, the AP Government, and the Navy are working on a feasibility report on the tourism project. The 24,000-tonne worlds oldest aircraft carrier is all set to be decommissioned in June this year, and it is likely to be handed to the Andhra Pradesh Government at a price of Re. 1 for converting it into a 500-room luxury hotel.

To bring this Warship from the sea to the Coast is very difficult and expensive, therefore, Govt has appointed Crisil to estimate the total expenditure to be incurred for this activity. If everything is going well, this will be materialised within a period of 6 months.
01.03.2017: The long-pending project of widening the Anakapalli-Anandapuram road is likely to commence in July this year with the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) speeding up the land acquisition process. The existing double road will have certain portions developed into four-lane stretches while some portions will be developed into six-lane stretches to ease traffic woes faced by the people. Apart from the 50.6 km Anandapuram-Anakapalli highway, the NHAI has also taken up the widening project of the 13.6 km Sabbavaram-Sheelanagar port connectivity highway. Both the projects would cost Rs 3,000 crore including Rs 700 crore for land acquisition, sources said.
Once the road is widened, vehicles plying from Srikakulam to Rajahmundry can be diverted at Anandapuram to reach Anakapalli without passing through the city. 31.10.2016: Bids have been invited for Anandapuram-Ankapalle highway that has been on the cards for a long time now. The National Highways Authority of India has called for the bids on October 17 and December 1 is the last date for receipt. The Anakapalle-Sabbavaram-Pendurti road will be a six-lane road and the Sheelanagar-Sabbavaram four-lane is also a part of it. The two roads together come to a total of 63.48 km and the estimated cost is Rs.2,393 crore, according to NHAI officials.
21.10.2016 : Minister for Transport, Roads and Buildings Mr. Sidda Raghava Rao said that bids were invited for the Anandapuram-Anakapalle highway of 65 km, while inaugurating a seminar on “Urban Transport Corridors” here on Friday, he also said a smart city needed a transport system that was easy, convenient, accessible with low carbon footprint.

25.05.2016 : Vizag Port Trust Chairman Mr. Krishna Babu said that Heavy Flyover is to be constructed in Vizag Smart City under Sagarmala Project. Central Govt has agreed in principle for this project and the Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be ready by next month end. Sheelanagar to Sabbavaram, 13 kms, with a cost of Rs. 500 crores, which is to be linked with the proposed Anandapuram to Anakapally 6 lane National Highway (NH-16) bypass road.

20.12.2016: VUDA may take auction route to raise funds. Urban Development Authority told to bear 13 p.c of the project cost. With the State government making VUDA responsible for raising part of the resources required for the ambitious Metro rail project, the Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority may go in for auction of land to raise funds. The Metro Rail project for which various studies have been completed is estimated to cost Rs. 13,000 crore for about 45 km stretch. While part of the funds comes from the government, a major chunk is to be borne by the agency selected with Vizag Metro proposed under the Public Private Partnership model. Detailed project report - The detailed project report on the three Metro corridors, withthe Delhi Metro Rail Corporation as consultants, was prepared and submitted to the State government in August 2015 and approved by the State Cabinet. It is now under appraisal of the Union government.
21.10.2016: Urban Mass Transit Co.Ltd (UMTCL) is appointed as a Consultant for VIZAG METRO RAIL PROJECT for preparation of Comprehensive Mobility Plan, with a consultancy charges of Rs. 50 lakhs. Urban and Municipal Administration Chief Secretary, Mr. Karikala Valavan has been issued orders in this regard.

Vizag Metro to be unique PPP - Schedule Bidding for EOI: In two months, Selecting developer: 6 to 8 months, Civil works and rolling stock: In 30 months, Completion of project: 3 to 4 years The proposed Visakhapatnam Metro Rail Project will be a unique one in the Public Private Partnership (PPP). The idea is to make the project more sustainable for the developer and affordable for the public, according to Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation (AMRC) MD NP. Ramakrishna Reddy. "The State government will be contributing to 20 per cent of the Rs.13,488 crore in the form of government land which is abundantly available in Visakhapatnam. Another 20 per cent of the cost will come from the Central government. The rest of the burden will be borne by the private developer," Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy told The Hindu .
28.07.2016: Central & State Governments have decided to construct the Vizag Metro Rail Project under PPP basis. Hopefully, the first phase corridor from Kommadi to Gajuwaka should alteast commence by early next year. Amaravati Metro Rail Corporation MD, Mr. Ramakrishna Reddy, who is also looking after the Vizag Metro Rail project works, visited the Metro Rail project corridors in the City along with the officials of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, also met the District Collector, Mr. Pravin Kumar regarding land acquisition for metro project. Revised project cost is Rs. 13,488 crores, out of this 20% sanctioned by Central Govt as grant, 20% state government's share and the balance 60% from private companies.
State Govt.of Andhra Pradesh had submitted the Detailed Project Rerport (DPR) for Vizag Metro Rail Project prepared by DMRC, to the Union Govt. The Union Cabinet has to approve the project and also to be decided which organisation would be funding the project.
State Govt.of AP has sent a proposal to the Central Govt for their approval to obtain a loan of Rs. 6,371 crores from Japan International Cooperative Agency (JICA) and also Union Urban Development Ministry's approval for the Metro Project and form a special purpose vehicle to start the Metro Work.

Vizag Smart City Metro Rail Project gets Govt. of Andhra Pradesh Cabinet nod. The project works, which will be started in the early 2016, are expected to be completed the first phase (Madhurawada to Gajuwaka corridor) by end Dec,2018 and the remaining two corridors (Thatichetlapalem to Old Post Office via Railway Station, Gurudwara to Park Hotel) by end 2020.
According to sources, it would take atleast another 3-4 months for the DPR to get the Union Urban Development Ministry's nod and form a special purpose vehicle to entrust the responsibility of Metro Work.

Proposal for Govt. Dental College in Vizag Smart City is pending since long time. Proposal has been made to Medical Council of India (MCI) to set up Govt. Dental College, which will be affiliated to Andhra Medical College, to start with 100 seats. A report has been sent to the State Govt.of Andhra Pradesh regarding infrastructure required for setting up the Dental College.
28.09.2016 - International Schoool - Though the proposal was mooted and the bidding process completed a year ago by Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh, the final clearance came in the cabinet meeting held on Thursday(22.09.2016). This will be the first school in Andhra Pradesh to introduce International Baccalaureate (IB) syllabus.
17.03.2016 - Consortium of Anglo Schools (UK) and Nova-Priyadarshini group of institutions formed. International School strength would be around 2000. The Curriculum would be a mix of both Indian and UK school syllabi. Reliance Developers will construct the building. Efforts are on to start operations from the 2018-19 academic year.
Request for Proposal notification for selection of developer for an International School. Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (INCAP) invited Request for Proposal (RFP) for selection of the developer for an International School at Adavivaram, Simhachalam in Vizag Smart City on PPP basis (International Competitive Bidding) - 15 acres of land has been identified and the cost of the project is INR 93.4 crores and the school is expected to cater to 2000 students including 500 residential students.

03.03.2016 : Information Technology Investment Region (ITIR) in Vizag Smart City. Once ITIR is sanctioned, the development of the city as a prominent IT hub would have got shot in the arm with pumping in of Rs.5,000 crore to create the required ecosystem. As the Ministry of IT and Communications will revise its policy, the DPR submitted by Ernst & Young couple of years ago may become redundant now. The State government is likely to be forced to submit a fresh proposal for sanction of IT Investment Region in Visakhapatnam with the Centre deciding to have a re-look at the ITIR policy.
The State Government has submitted the proposal to the Centre after Ernst and Young conducted a detailed project report. ITIR in Visakhapatnam is envisaged in 40.4 sq. km with an estimated investment of Rs.50,000 crore to Rs.60,000 crore in phases to create direct jobs to nine lakh persons. Startups, hardware manufacturing and software development with social infrastructure.
The proposed IT Tower is at the Visakhapatnam Special Economic Zone (VSEZ) premises in Duvvada. Union minister for commerce and industry Ms. Nirmala Sitharaman laid the foundation stone for the tower in August, 2014, which is expected to cost around Rs 40 crore.
The IT tower was to come up over 2.5 acres with a plinth area of 1.09 lakh sft with plug and play facilities for IT firms along with two floors set aside exclusively for data recovery centres.
03.07.2016 : Site finalised for Electronic Manufacturing Clusters (EMC) in Vizag Smart City - APIIC has finalised its location at Gurammapalem near Pendurthy and AP Pollution Control Board has also cleared it.An estimated Rs. 300 crore will be spent on creating internal roads, other amenities and infrastructure will be spent. Part of it will be granted by DeitY. In another development, instead of 98 acres, an additional area of 30 acres is likely to be allotted to seek investments in high-end IT products and services.

We need to get clarification as to who will fund the infrastructure development for the EHMC. As soon as the clearance is issued from the government, we will take up the development of the cluster by providing roads, power, water and other necessary infrastructure, said an APIIC official.The in-principle clearance was received a month ago. We have to prepare the final project report and send it to the central government. Once we get the final clearances, we will divide the clusters into plots and offer it to different electronic companies, a senior IT department official said, adding, A couple of companies have shown interest in the cluster, but it may increase as and when the cluster is formally announced. An IT department official said, We can invite the companies to come and set up shop only after the central government declares the cluster. As and when the central government approves the cluster, it will also provide large funding for development of infrastructure for the EHMC.

17.10.2016 : VUDA Vice Chairman, Mr. Baburao Naidu said that Govt has decided to construct Integrated Sports Complex only at Gandigundam. Primarily four designs prepared by VUDA for the sports complex are under consideration and they will finalize one design out of them and start construction. Estimated cost of the project is Rs. 400 cr, with a seating capacity of 50000 people and also the stadium will be constructed to facilitate playing 32 types sports.
05.06.2016 : HRD Minister, Mr. Ganta Srinivasa Rao said Four consultants had submitted designs. The Chief Minister had been apprised of it. The built-up area ranged from 11 lakh sft to 25 lakh sft (with hotel and other amenities). The estimated cost ranged from Rs.210 crore to Rs.483 crore.
21.04.2016 : Multi Sports Complex at Gandigundam in Vizag Smart City. A meeting with architects on the design of the Multi Sports Complex proposed at Gandigundam was held on The stadium coming up over 79 acres will have facilities for 32 Sports. Chief Minister, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu proposed the stadium with the object of hosting the 2018 National Games. VUDA, Vice Chairman, Mr. Baburao Naidu asked the architects to submit the designs by May 14. The designs should include facilities for coaching, ample green cover and multi-level and underground parking.
