02.03.2018 : IIM-Visakhapatnam likely to move to own campus by 2021. Efforts on to take possession of land; construction may begin next year. Indian Institute of Management (IIM)- Visakhapatnam, which currently operates from a makeshift campus at Andhra University, is likely to move to its new campus by 2021. The Andhra Pradesh government has allotted about 240 acres of land in Gambheeram area to set up its own campus and the boundary wall also has been constructed. According to the Director of IIM-Visakhapatnam Prof. M. Chandrasekhar, efforts are on to take possession of the land by this month end. Speaking to The Hindu , he said that the DPR (Detailed Project Report) is ready and it is being studied by the Expenditure Finance Committee. IIM-V has been allotted Rs. 700 cores for capital expenditure and Rs. 500 crores for recurring expenditure.

05.08.2017 : The Lok Sabha passed a Bill for establishing the Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) in Andhra Pradesh that will impart high quality education and conduct advance research in all aspects relating to the conventional hydrocarbons. The IIPE is being set up in Visakhapatnam at a cost of Rs. 650 crore as part of a package promised by the Centre to Andhra Pradesh after Telangana was carved out of it. The batch of students were admitted last year and the institute is currently functioning out of the Andhra University campus in Visakhapatnam. Moving 'The Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy Bill, 2017', Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said the benefit of the institute would be accrued not only to Andhra Pradesh but India and the world as a whole. "It will have a futuristic impact... Youth will be benefited," he said, adding that it would cover both conventional and non-conventional forms of energy.
13.04.2017 : The Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has given its approval for setting up of Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) at Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh as "an Institute of National Importance" through an Act of Parliament. The Institute will have the governance structure as well as legal mandate to grant degrees in a manner similar to that enjoyed by IITs. A separate Act will also impart the required status to the Institute to become a "Centre of Excellence" in petroleum and energy studies. The Cabinet has also approved Rs 655.46 crore as capital expenditure to set up IIPE and contribution of Rs 200 crore towards its Endowment Fund (in addition to a contribution of Rs 200 crore from Oil Companies towards the Endowment Fund).
Andhra Pradesh Government has allocated 200 acres of land, free of cost, for setting up of IIPE at Sabbavaram Mandal in Visakhapatnam district. IIPE has been registered as a Society under the AP Society Registration Act, 2001 on 18/04/2016. A temporary campus of IIPE has been set up from academic session 2016-17 from the Andhra University Campus with two undergraduate programmes namely, Petroleum Engineering and Chemical Engineering (with capacity of 50 students each). IIT, Kharagpur has taken up the responsibility of mentoring the Institute.

06.06.2016 : Union Minister of State for Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan said that the classes for IIPE would commence from August 2016, in Visakhapatnam Smart City. The Indian Institute of Petroleum Engineering (IIPE) "the fourth university in the country specialising in courses in petroleum engineering" will launch classes for its maiden batch here in Vizag Smart City from 2016-17 academic year.
28.05.2016 : The Minister of State (I/C) for Petroleum & Natural Gas, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan today launched the website of Indian Institute of Petroleum & Energy (IIPE), Visakhapatnam (www.iipe.ac.in). The institute will primarily focus on teaching and research in petroleum and energy. IIT Kharagpur will be the mentor institute for the establishment of IIPE.
14.05.2016 : HPCL officials has taken over the land from the Govt.of Andhra Pradesh on 13.05.2016 for construction of Petroleum University at Antakapally in Sabbavaram Mandal, Visakhapatnam District in an area of 150 acres of survey nos. 113, 114 & 117.
20.04.2016 : Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) classes will be commenced from August, 2016 at the temporary campus in Andhra University Engineering College. Initially admissions will be provided for 120 B.Tech candidates in two courses and 36 M.Tech candidates in two courses. Joint Secretary of Union Petroleum Ministry, Ms. Sushma Rath visited AU along with District Collector, Mr. Yuvaraj and conducted a meeting regarding conducting classes, setting up an office and also providing facilities to students like library, hostel, conference hall etc.

Indian Institute of Petroleum and Energy (IIPE) in Vizag Smart City.Temporary campus from the academic year 2016-17 at Andhra University until built their own campus at Anthakapally Village in Sabbavaram Mandal. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on 4th February between IIPE and Andhra University to start the IIPE sessions during the academic year 2016-17. The MoU is for a period of 3 years till the period IIPE sets up the infrastructure in its own premises. The MoU is facilitated by Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited.
Petroleum University at Sabbavaram Mandal in Vizag Smart City. Govt.of Andhra Pradesh allotted 150 acres of land to the proposed Petroleum University at Anthakapalli (V) in Sabbavaram (M). Classes will be commenced from the next academic year.
The State government has agreed in-principle to allot 100 acres for the SDI at Vangali village in Sabbavaram mandal. The oil companies will be investing about Rs. 496 crore to make it world-class. The DPR for the SDI complex has been prepared by the KPMG. It has been submitted to the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas. Once the building is ready, it will turn into an international-class university. The campus will offer various job-ready courses for 23,000 students per annum.

31.05.2017 : After lying idle for two-and-a-half years since its foundation was laid, work for the shore-based laboratory of the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Vizag would begin soon as all required permissions have been procured and the financial aspects are currently being finalised. The upcoming lab in Yendada, along Vizag-Bheemili Beach Road, would have sea water intake facility through pipelines fitted with sensors for studying various parameters and research. This Rs 30.5 crore project is to be funded by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). The laboratory is important because of the 38 CSIR-run institutions in India, NIO is the only one in entire AP and it's also the only ocean-research institute in the entire eastern coast.
National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) Visakhapatnam Regional Centre has its presence in the city since 1976 and presently has three rented premises. Its dream to have its own premises would be fulfilled once it moves to the new project proposed at Yendada on the Beach Road. Foundation stone for the dream project of the institute was laid in 2015 May. Scientists of the National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) have to wait for some more time for their dream to have a world-class research lab and associated facilities in the City of Destiny.
The reason for the delay is attributed to procedures involved in getting clearance for revised estimates for the project from the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, and approval of building plan from Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority and the Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation. The complex will have smart buildings with water recycling, underground cabling and drainage, solar power and other facilities. It will be dedicated to undertake research on various aspects of the Bay of Bengal, including the characteristics of tidal waves, genesis of cyclones, biochemistry of ecosystem, rip current and beach profiling and monsoon prediction.

25.09.2017 : Pharma units press for allotment of site for NIPER in Vizag. Pharma units in North Andhra have made a strong plea to the State and central governments to fulfil their commitment to set up National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER) in Visakhapatnam.
An estimated 500 acres is required for developing the campus of NIPER. The Centre is also expected to fund to the tune of ₹600 crore to create infrastructure for the institute, considered on par with premier institute like IIT. Major pharma units like Hospira, Mylan, Aurobindo, Eisai, Reddy's, Divi's Lab and Hetero have their units in the region. Many more are also in the pipeline. Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City (JNPC), developed by Ramky at Parawada, is abuzz with activity with most of the 100 units starting their operation.
During the CII Partnership Summit 2016 held in Visakhapatnam from 10th to 12th Jan, 2016, Minister of Chemicals & Fertilisers, Government of India, Mr. Anant Kumar announced that his ministry has proposed the setting up of a National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education & Research (NIPER) in Visakhapatnam with an investment of Rs 600 crore. Mr Kumar said that the institute would need 500 acres of land in the city. He said that this provision will be taken up in the next Budget and added that the foundation stone for the institute will be laid soon.
29.09.2017 - M/s Priyadarshini Educational Society and M/s Nova Educational society had enter into a lease agreement with Sri Varaha Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Devasthanam, Simhachalam, for establishment of an International School under PPP mode in an extent of Ac.15.03 cents of land situated in Sy.No.12 of Adavivaram Village, for 33 years, with an estimated cost of Rs.93,00,00,000/-. A special purpose vehicle i.e., Mount Dios Educational Society was formed for undertaking the project. Executive Officer of Simhachalam Devasthanam said that the lease deed registered in the name of the Mount Dios Educational Society at Gopalapatnam Sub-Registrar office on 27.09.2017.
28.09.2016 - International Schoool - Though the proposal was mooted and the bidding process completed a year ago by Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh, the final clearance came in the cabinet meeting held on Thursday(22.09.2016). This will be the first school in Andhra Pradesh to introduce International Baccalaureate (IB) syllabus.
17.03.2016 - Consortium of Anglo Schools (UK) and Nova-Priyadarshini group of institutions formed. International School strength would be around 2000. The Curriculum would be a mix of both Indian and UK school syllabi. Reliance Developers will construct the building. Efforts are on to start operations from the 2018-19 academic year.
Request for Proposal notification for selection of developer for an International School. Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh Limited (INCAP) invited Request for Proposal (RFP) for selection of the developer for an International School at Adavivaram, Simhachalam in Vizag Smart City on PPP basis (International Competitive Bidding) - 15 acres of land has been identified and the cost of the project is INR 93.4 crores and the school is expected to cater to 2000 students including 500 residential students.
02.03.2018 - Around 4000 acres are required for BARC and the issues relating to land in Tantadi and Chippada should be resolved, acquisition expedited and the government rate should be decided. Any cases pending in Lok Adalat should be resolved, he said. Mr Pravin Kumar said he would hold a meeting with officials of the Forest Department, if any forest land was needed for the project.
